Brief History

The Institute of Solid Mechanics of the Romanian Academy (IMSAR) is an organization for advanced fundamental and application research in the field of solid mechanics. The IMSAR has its origin in the Institute of Applied Mechanics Traian Vuia established in 1949 under the aegis of Romanian Academy. In 1965, the Center of Solid Mechanics has worked as an independent research institute. During 1977-1989 periods, the Center was a Department of the Institute of Physics and Technology of Materials, belonging to the former National Committee for Nuclear Energy. In 1990 this research Department became the actual Institute of Solid Mechanics of the Romanian Academy. Since 1949 till now, the fundamental and interdisciplinary research, done by our self or in partnerships with other Romanian and international universities and research institutes, has been and continuously is the goal of our activity.
